EM3585-RTR is a range of RF transceiver ICs from Texas Instruments that are intended for low-power, long-range wireless applications. The transceiver is designed to be compliant with ZigBee and IEEE 802.15.4 wireless communication protocols. It is suitable for use in applications such as energy management and metering, consumer electronics, home/building automation, industrial and medical monitoring, and outdoor/outdoor-networked applications. The EM3585-RTR has a transmit power of +13 dBm and a receive sensitivity of -97 dBm. It also supports a data rate of up to 250 kbps. It is also equipped with a range of features such as AES encryption, packet filtering and acknowledgements, energy detect mode, external voltage regulator (EM0095-RTR), digital voltage regulator (EM0095-VR), temperature sensor as well as temperature and voltage monitoring. It operates on a supply voltage of 2.1 to 3.6 V and works over a temperature range of -40 to +85 °C. The EM3585-RTR has a simple and flexible architecture that is compatible with a range of different radio systems such as IEEE 802.15.4, ZigBee, 802.15.4g, Zigbee RF4CE, and proprietary protocol solutions. The device also supports O-QPSK modulation and FSK modulation for communication over radio footprint sizes. The EM3585-RTR is designed to have a robust RF side and baseband layer interface between the MCU and the RF transceiver. The integrated power amplifier provides enhanced programming flexibility and an optimized design to reduce EMI. It also supports up to 32-byte payload length which enables better throughput and robustness. The built-in frequency synthesizer supports both the 802.15.4g O-QPSK and FSK modulation schemes and facilitates an easy way to program the required radio parameters. The IC also has two operational modes for communication purposes-normal mode (on), where the power consumption is higher and the extended mode (sleep), where the power consumption is lower. The IC also supports different kinds of wakeup protocols which enable extended-range communication and low power consumption. The EM3585-RTR has been designed to be reliable and robust, with strong anti-jamming capabilities to ensure a reliable and secure wireless network under hostile RF jamming environments. The security features include AES encryption with 256-bit global key, packet filtering for acknowledgement message, and an internal state machine for packet processing.
