EN6310QI is a third-generation DC-DC switching regulator made by Ricoh, a top-tier power management integrated chip (PMIC) manufacturer. Designed for automotive applications, the EN6310QI has a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 42V, making it ideal for a variety of automotive applications such as automotive batteries, fuel cells, chargers, and solar power systems. The EN6310QI can supply up to 3.5A of output current and can also provide a wide range of output voltages ranging from 0.6V to 4V.
The EN6310QI uses pulse-width modulation (PWM) control to ensure maximum output power conversion with minimal power loss. Additionally, it includes built-in protection circuits such as under-voltage lockouts, over-current protection, over-temperature protection, and short-circuit protection, to protect both the regulator and the load. Moreover, it boasts highly efficient output and low noise due to using a low ESR tantalum or aluminum electrolytic capacitor.
In addition to offering excellent power conversion, the EN6310QI is also equipped with a wide range of features. It includes an oscillator, a programmable dead-time, soft start, and a phase-shift control conditioner that helps to optimize the efficiency of the output stage and reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI). It also comes with a built-in voltage follower, which can be used to control the output voltage as desired, depending on the application. Furthermore, the regulator has an adjustable output current limit and can be set to around 3A.
The regulation of the EN6310QI is based on the PWM control circuit. In this case, the power signal is supplied through an external signal input. The external signal is compared to an internally generated signal in the PWM comparator. The comparator then drives an output signal to the power switch, which is used to turn the output voltage on and off. By controlling the Duty Cycle (the ratio of on/off time) of the signal, the output voltage can be adjusted. When the output voltage falls below the input voltage, it will shut off the output voltage and wait until the input voltage is restored in order to control the output voltage stability.
