TVS diodes are transil devices used for protection against transient overvoltage surges. The Clamp zone is where the diode’s features of high speed and low capacitance come into play; the diode’s high speed clamps the voltage so that it can be safely absorbed, while the low capacitance ensures that the signal remains intact and uncorrupted. Finally, the diode is able to dissipate the current through its Resistive zone.
