Working Principle
The working principle of the EVAL–AD5162SDZ evaluation and demonstration board is based on the concept of digital potentiometry. This concept uses a voltage-controlled linear resistor to produce a linear voltage response over a range of values. In the AD5162 device, this linear resistor is digitally programmed by a 4-bit data line. This programming is stored in nonvolatile memory, so the device can be reprogrammed multiple times for most applications. The on-chip voltage divider is also protected from electrical stress using a PIN diode.

The power source selection switch is used to select between the AC and DC power sources, depending on the application requirements.
