Introduction
EVAL-AD7147-1EBZ is a tool developed by Analog Devices to analyze, test and evaluate capacitive sensing systems. Working Principle
EVAL-AD7147-1EBZ is based on a capacitive sensing technology. This technology works based on the displacement current present in capacitive structures that regulate the magnitude of the signal sensed. When there is a change in the environment, the capacitance of a capacitive structure changes proportionally with that change, and thus, the magnitude of the signal sensed. The capacitance changes depend on the distance between the two electrodes of the capacitive structure, the relative permittivity of the material, temperature, number of electrical conductors in the environment, and other environmental conditions. The EVAL-AD7147-1EBZ consists of integrated key-electrode structures, thus, the capacitance changes in the environment can be applied to the electrodes.
The AD7147 is an integrated circuit with an embedded microcontroller and an on-chip capacitive sensing core. The capacitive sensing core consists of key-electrode capacitive structures with mutual capacitance measurement elements. The core also includes an excitation controller, analog-to-digital converter and digital interface engine module to interface with the microcontroller. The microcontroller provides the calculations to turn the capacitance measurements and other sensor parameters into a digital signal for interpretation by the application process.
