The EVAL-KXSS5-2057 evaluation board is designed to provide a comprehensive and versatile platform for evaluating the performance of an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to confirm its capabilities and identify any potential issues. The evaluation board comes equipped with the KXSS5-2057 Inertial Measurement Unit, a three-axis accelerometer plus three-axis gyroscope, connected via SPI and I2C interfaces.
This IMU has been specifically designed to provide highly accurate and robust sensing of X/Y/Z-axis linear acceleration and angular velocity accurately and over a wide temperature range. These sensor combination allows for applications such as navigation, vehicle stability control, robotics, drone flight control and application force sensing which require the precise measurement of both linear and angular motion.
The EVAL-KXSS5-2057 evaluation board provides all the necessary drivers and hardware to allow for simple setup and operation in any microcontroller- or processor-based system. Included are 3-axis linear accelerometer, 3-axis angular rate gyroscope, baseband digital output, 16 bits, acceleration standard deviation &°;0.9 mg, gyroscope standard deviation &°;3.2 mdps, and a wide temperature range operating from -40°C to +125°C. It also comes with a digital serial interface line driver and small form factor that allows for space constrained applications. All of these features provide a strong platform for system design designers to assess the performance of the device and fine-tune their system.
The KXSS5-2057 is based on the concept of angular momentum. When angular velocity is applied to an object, a torque is developed in direct proportion to the magnitude and direction of the angular velocity. Acceleration is then a measure of the change in angular velocity over time. The IMU is composed of three magnetic field sensors, which measure the angular velocity of each axis, and three accelerometers, which measure the linear acceleration of each axis. The output of the IMU are in 16-bit, digital values and can be transmitted via a simple SPI or I2C interface.
The EVAL-KXSS5-2057 evaluation board provides an easy and reliable platform to fine tune the set-up parameters, ensure the tight accuracy specification of the IMU, and therefore verify the system performance. The EVAL-KXSS5-2057 is capable of delivering both angular velocity and linear acceleration measurement with a specification of ±0.9 mg and ±3.2 mdps, respectively. The board also provides a selectable output range allowing for flexibility in system design. The EVAL-KXSS5-2057 also comes with a host of network-related features that may be needed to set up the device in a professional environment such as setting the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway of the device in an IP network.
The EVAL-KXSS5-2057 evaluation board is well-suited for a wide range of applications such as navigation, vehicle stability control, robotics, drone flight control and application force sensing.
