The EVAL SF3-ICE3A5565P evaluation boards is a DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) switched-mode power supply (SMPS) from Infineon. This board is used to test the performance of Infineon’s ICE3A5565P, a high-efficiency, power-conversion IC that integrates a controller, primary-side regulation, and secondary-side test pins. This board can be used to test actual power-saving performance, error rate, ringing signal analysis, soft-start testing, PSRR, and general performance. It can also be used for debugging and trouble-shooting.
The EVAL SF3-ICE3A5565P is a small form-factor evaluation board that is designed to monitor and analyze the key parameters for the ICE3A5565P. The board features an off-line, active-clamp reset flyback topology with isolation and includes a reference design that features high efficiency, PSRR, and high power quality. The EVAL SF3-ICE3A5565P utilizes an integrated power-conversion IC and features a control loop with primary-side regulation, primary-switching, and secondary-side sensing. The input voltage for the evaluation board is from 9V up to 265V (AC or DC). Its output power can be easily adjusted via the reference design’s EVT and HV/LV jumpers as well as by changing the Diodes D1 and D2 along with the components R1, L1, C12, and C4. Its output voltage can be adjusted in the range of 2.5V to 13V. The output current is limited by the main transformer primary-current limit and its output power is limited to 20W.
The ICE3A5565P integration offers direct and fast control of the regulation and switching stages with digital control signals, which can enable the user to achieve high efficiency of more than 90%. It also has built-in features such as constant on-time control, optimized LDO startup, pulse frequency modulation, and auto-skip secondary-side regulation to enhance primary-side operations. Moreover, the ICE3A5565P integrates digital protection and monitoring features, such as open loop protection, over-temperature protection, short-circuit protection, and loadtransient compensation.
The board’s main components include two primary switches, one power-conversion IC, and an auxiliary control circuit. The main transformer has two primary windings and one secondary winding that is used for the output. The primary switches are used to control the on/off and output voltage of the power conversion IC. The power-conversion IC is responsible for providing high-efficiency power conversion from the input voltage to the output voltage. The auxiliary control circuit is used to provide protection from overcurrent, over-temperature and short-circuit conditions.
