The EX128-PTQ64 can be programmed to carry out a variety of tasks, depending on configuration options chosen during design, and is programmed through an External Memory Interface (EMI) to access the flash memory containing the logic design, and also via a set of programming pins to give added flexibility. The FPGA can then be configured to execute the logic Gates stored in the flash memory.
The array of logic cells are controlled by a set of two-input look-up tables (LUTs). These LUTs control the operations made by the device, and can be set to pre-defined functions for each operation. In the EX128-PTQ64, the LUTs are organized into four Array Blocks, each containing sixteen LUTs, giving a total of sixty-four LUTs. Each block is connected to a separate I/O block, thereby spreading the I/O functions across the FPGA.
