The FAN3225CMPX is a PMIC – Gate Driver (Power Management Integrated Circuit). This setting includes top-gated high-side and low-side driver, and described technologies to lower power consumption, supply voltage noise immunity, and small amount of quiescent current. The key feature of FAN3225CMPX is to drive the low-side and high-side MOSFETs combination to realize high-efficiency power converter applications.
FAN3225CMPX achieves the protection of high-side and low-side MOSFETs and also allows passing more than enough operating voltage. Its power stage employs N-MOSFET and P-MOSFET devices in parallel, and these transistors have improved EMI efficiency. Its devices are RoHS and WEEE complaint.
The FAN3225CMPX is designed with a current protection circuit to protect high side MOSFET with a negative gate-source voltage, low standby current, and short circuit protection. FAN3225CMPX is qualified to the automotive grade quality and AEC-Q100 standard and qualified for any 12V/24V applications.
The FAN3225CMPX’s application fields mainly involve implementing high-efficiency power converters as a switch mode power supply (SMPS) in automotive, industrial, consumer, medical, military applications. The following areas make use of such gate drivers: motor controls, converters, power supplies, UPS, DCDC converters, light source controllers, motor drive circuits, linear and switch mode converters, audio amplifiers, home appliances, and power distribution. Additionally, this gate driver is popular in automotive applications such as on-board charger, radio frequency identification (RFID) locating, and autonomous cruise system.
The basic operating principle of FAN3225CMPX lies in its ability to control the high-side MOSFET while keeping low-side MOSFET switched off. This circuitry employs current flow from drain to source, powering the load between Source and Drain terminals. In order to achieve switched mode supply, FAN3225CMPX includes an independent high-side drive for the high-side MOSFET and also gates low-side MOSFET as required, enabling a low-side driver circuit. The switching time necessary to switch between high-side and low-side driver switching is typically achieved in nanoseconds, thus achieving high efficiency.
It also has a maximum output current of 45A and single-time programmable overcurrent limit that allows to set current limit according to the load requirements. It enables fast fault management and protection circuit with a 400 kHz oscillator. The fault current monitor circuit monitors the output current of the high-side MOSFET and reports fault conditions to the signal line connected to the PFC controller in order to detect fault conditions and cut off the high-side MOSFET.
FAN3225CMPX adopts an advanced BCTMOS process to provide unprecedented power efficiency and current drive capability. This process ensures that high-side and low-side MOSFETs are switched off quickly in order to reduce switching losses, thus increasing the efficiency of the power converter application. FAN3225CMPX is a typical example of PMIC – Gate Driver integrated circuits, making use of modern process technologies to deliver highest efficiency and reliability.
