The FAN4800IM can be configured for either continuous-conduction mode (CCM) or discontinuous-conduction mode (DCM) operation. In CCM, the input current is in phase with the input voltage so that less input power will be dissipated compared to DCM. In DCM, the current through the switch is discontinuous, allowing for higher efficiency since the input current is no longer in phase with the input voltage. The FAN4800IM has a built-in current-control loop which will maintain the output current of the PFC stage at a constant level.
