The FAN7601MX is a popular PMIC, particularly known for its AC DC Converters, Offline Switchers and other power applications.
The FAN7601MX is a high performance, single-stage AC to DC Step-Down converter IC featuring an integrated high-voltage MOSFET, Digital Voltage Positioning (DVP) and an integrated control loop. The integrated control loop allows the FAN7601MX to power most applications with minimal external components, while achieving high efficiency and good transient response.
The FAN7601MX is targeted at power solutions that require a DC output voltage range of 4.5V-23V and an input voltage range of 5.5V-110V. Additionally, the device can also support high input voltage transient, as well as a wide junction temperature range from –40°C to +125°C
The FAN7601MX has a both a Cycle-by-Cycle current limit and a digital voltage positioning (DVP) mode for improved efficiency and simplifications to the user design. It also features under-voltage lockout, over temperature protection and an enable pin to support the system ON/OFF. This makes the FAN7601MX suitable for automotive, consumer, computing, and industrial applications
In terms of working principle, the FAN7601MX includes an input voltage regulator loop and an output voltage regulator loop. The input voltage regulator loop consists of an error amplifier, a programmable oscillator, a keyed multiplier, a low side Gate Driver and a high side Gate Driver. The output voltage regulator loop includes an error amplifier, a programmable oscillator, an integrated Feedback Field Effect Transistor (FFET) and a VCO (Voltage Control Oscillator) Module.
The input voltage regulator loop detects the input voltage change and adjusts the output voltage dynamically based on external feedback resistors. The output voltage regulator loop works to regulate the output voltage to the programmable output point set by the external feedback resistors. The VCO Module works to sense the output power stage voltage and current, and adjusts the duty cycle of the output switch based on the output voltage setting.
To provide accurate voltage control and constant frequency over a wide load range, the FAN7601MX also includes cycle-by-cycle current limit, as well as Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) control. Additionally, the device includes an enable pin, which can be controlled from a microcontroller or other sources to turn the device ON and OFF. This feature is especially important for automotive and system-level applications.
