The FAN7888M gate driver is a high-speed, high-side, N-Channel MOSFET driver used to power various consumer, industrial and automotive applications where high current switching and reliability is required. The device is capable of driving up to 35A peak switch current with a 350ns turn-on time and up to 500ns turn-off time, making it suitable for a wide range of applications such as backlighting, motor control and power conversion.

The FAN7888M offers many features such as dead-time control, adjustable switching slew rate , adjustable current sense threshold, over-temperature protection and programmable soft-start. The device is offered in an 8 pin SOIC package and is rated for an operating temperature range of -40 °C to 125 °C.

Applications

The FAN7888M device is specifically designed for high-side switch applications. It can be used in applications such as LED backlighting and motor control for automotive, industrial, and consumer applications.

Working Principle

The FAN7888M gate driver is a high-side N-Channel MOSFET driver. The device features an internal high-side N-Channel MOSFET, current sense amplifier, supply voltage regulator, bootstrap switch, resonator, and control logic to drive the MOSFET. The gate driver is designed to provide high-peak current drive capability through its internal MOSFET without the need for external gate resistors.

When the logic input pin is low the internal MOSFET is switched off and the output voltage is controlled to ground. When the logic input is high, the internal high-side MOSFET is switched on, providing the necessary current to drive the external MOSFET gate. The output voltage of the FAN7888M is adjustable by adjusting the on/off threshold current level. The FAN7888M also provides adjustable current-sense threshold, which allows setting of the upper and lower limits of the MOSFET on-time.

In addition to driving the MOSFET gate, the FAN7888M offers a number of other features such as soft-start, protection against overloads, over-current protection and adjustable slew rate, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. There are also integrated protections against over temperature, under voltage, as well as over-voltage.
