FIN3383MTDX is an interface serializer/deserializer that is ideal for combining physical layers, such as fibre and UTP, in a wide variety of industrial and consumer applications. The device converts 10/100/1000 Mbps Fibre Channel or Gigabit Ethernet frames into up to 12 twisted-pair or 4 multimode-fibre channels, providing a 4x speedup in serial transmission. It is capable of providing up to 72Gbps of serial data throughput, depending on the particular application.

The FIN3383MTDX is designed to reduce power dissipation and increase performance, providing a low-noise performance. It also supports advanced features such as auto negotiation, clock synchronization, and cabling diagnostics.

The device uses a “packet-switched” approach to convert physical-layer signals into serial data real-time. The internal structure consists of four independently managed four-lane channels, each with its own packet format and frame-level synchronization. It is capable of transferring up to 12 parallel physical signals into serial data stream, and can be used in various protocols and applications, such as DACS (Digital Access Control System), SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy), POS (Packet Over SONET/SDH), and Ethernet.
