FIN3386MTDX Application Field and Working Principle

FIN3386MTDX is a serial transceiver and deserializer developed by Altera. It is primarily used in high-speed communication systems and is well suited for applications like Ethernet, Fibre Channel, ATM, SONET/SDH, and other similar applications. It can be used for point-to-point, direct-port-to-port, or bridged interfacing; and supports a wide range of data rates from 5Mb/s to 10Gb/s. The device also features sophisticated on-chip phase aligned clock and data recovery circuits, phase-locked loop (PLL), and multiplexer/demultiplexer support.

Serializers

The device utilizes the serial transmitters with the help of differential line drivers to provide a truely matched impedance system (100Ω or 150Ω). The serializers support byte-wide transmission and provide clock synchronization while maintaining accurate timing of the data. The transmitters feature a built-in voltage regulator that provides an output voltage compliant to LVPECL TTL, HSTL and 2.5V TTL. The data passed to the serializers is latched high or low according to the transceiver\'s control pins. The signal appears at the outputs in the form of high and low voltage pulses.

DESerializers

The deserializers in the device operate on the incoming streams of high and low frequency signals. These signals are received at the deserializers and processed to create a byte-wide output from the incoming data stream. The data received is checked for errors, such as bit-stuffing, jitter, and framing, which can be caused by noise. The output from the deserializer is a synchronized signal which is free of any errors caused by incoming data streams. The output waveform from the deserializers is compatible with TTL, LVPECL and HSTL levels.

Phase-Locked Loops
