FOD2711A

The FOD2711A is a type of opto-isolator, which combines both a transistor and photovoltaic output. It is typically used to provide electrical isolation between two circuits. In other words, the opto-isolator creates an ‘air gap’ between the two circuits which prevents any electric charge arcing from one side to the other. This is extremely useful in applications where one circuit is running at a much higher voltage than the other, or where there could be a danger of electric shock if the circuits were connected together.

The FOD2711A has an LED source module for optically coupling the input and output of a circuit. An LED, or light emitting diode, shines light from one circuit to another across an isolation barrier.
