Working Principle
The FT24C64A-UTR-B memory consists of 512 pages, each page being 8 words and the total data having a size of 64 kbyte (512 x 8). It is assigned for two kinds of operations – sequential and random. Sequential operations require sending an address marker first, followed by reading or writing data. Random operations are used when there is no linear relationship between the address and the data being read or written.
The FT24C64A-UTR-B has an I2C bus interface and three lines of communication are needed - the serial data line (SDA), the serial clock line (SCL), and a master reset. When using the I2C bus, multiple devices can be connected to the same SCL and SDA lines, contact with any device can be achieved by changing the address. The FT24C64A-UTR-B has default addresses: Slave address 0x50 for the write and read operations, and the Slave address 0x52 for the reading operation due to the Read/Write bit.
The FT24C64A-UTR-B has two kinds of ICs – static IC and dynamic IC. The static IC has no internal refresh. It can operate in any environment of power supply, but the speed of each read/write operation will decrease with different levels of power supply. The dynamic IC has a 8k-byte internal refresh, and depending on the power supply voltage, its internal refresh can reach up to 3.2 MHz. It also supports the operating voltage of 1.8V to the 5V range.
The FT24C64A-UTR-B also has several types of write-protect functions, including write protect by hardware pins, write protect by register bit, and write protect by address. There are two kinds of command enable modes, including the total command enable mode and the enable command bit mode.
The FT24C64A-UTR-B offers up to 8 byte write operations for each I2C transmission and unlimited read operations. It provides a very wide range of applications such as medical devices, gaming consoles, telecommunications, automobiles, and network equipment. The write and read operations all run through the I2C bus. Its combination of high-speed data transfer, low power consumption, and multiple protection functions, makes it a highly versatile memory solution on the market today.
