The G3PA-210B-VD DC5-24 is a solid state relay which is designed to provide dc output switching services between 5 volts of direct current up to 24 volts. This device uses a opto-isolators and transistors as gate driver to provide interface between logic level signals and higher amperage loads. The opto- isolators are the principal components within these solid state relays. The opto-isolators use a semi-conductor light emitting diode, LED, as the input side and a photosensitive transistor as the output side.

When the LED on the input side receives a voltage, typically from a logic level source, it produces photons from the LED that are directed to the photosensitive transistor. The transistor, when exposed to enough light, allows a current through to the load attached to the output side of the relay. The amount of voltage and current received and produced by the relay is dependent upon the appropriate amount of light reaching the output side.
