GL24T-G3-08 Application Field and Working Principle
Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diodes are used to protect electrical circuits from overvoltage and protect against surges caused by electrostatic discharges, lightning, inductive loads, power induction, and other overvoltage transients. The GL24T-G3 series of TVS diodes is an integrated, low-voltage, unidirectional TVS diode that prevents voltage surge from threatening the safety of the load.
GL24T-G3 series of TVS diodes has a wide range of applications. It is most commonly used for the protection of battery-powered devices against voltage surges caused by electrostatic discharges, lightning and other overvoltage transients as well as for the protection of sensitive circuits that may be subjected to large transient voltages due to power inductions, charging and discharging of capacitive loads, etc. The GL24T-G3 series is also used to protect communication lines, data interfaces, AV equipment, computer systems, automotive electronics and vital equipment in industrial applications.
The working principle of GL24T-G3 series of TVS diodes is relatively simple. The device is composed of a p-n-p-n structure that consists of two P-type and two N-type semiconductor regions separated by depletion regions. When excessive voltage is applied to the diode, the depletion regions expand and reduce the electric field across them. This field reduction results in the reverse breakdown voltage of the diode. When the reverse bias applied to the diode exceeds the breakdown voltage, the diode enters its mode of high current conduction.
GL24T-G3 TVS diodes are made of an excellent glass package with the highest protection level moisturespecific. They are designed for operating in extreme conditions from -55°C to 125°C without any performance impact. They are also available in both surface mount and through-hole packages. The GL24T-G3 series has many benefits including low profile, low capacitance, low clamping voltage, low power consumption and high surge capability. It is an ideal choice for protecting sensitive circuits from voltage transients.
