These devices operate by conducting high voltage discharges, allowing the flow of relatively large currents for short periods of time, while providing very high levels of protection.GTCN28-151M-P15 Application Field and Working PrincipleThe GTCN28-151M-P15 arrester is designed for the protection of outdoor transformers or high voltage installations in medium or high-voltage distribution networks. This device is a compact gas-filled arrester with an earth contact. It is specially designed for the protection of medium and high-voltage circuit breakers or earth switches.The GTCN28-151M-P15 arrester has a high breakdown voltage of 8.3 kV, and provides protection up to 4.5 kV and 3.6 kV. The protection of the arrester starts when the voltage applied to it reaches a certain value, which is known as the breakdown voltage. When the voltage level exceeds this value, a spark will pass through the gas between the electrodes, which will cause a voltage drop, resulting in the interruption of the current flow. This interruption of current flow is referred to as arrester trip off protection.When the voltage returns to normal levels, the arrester will again block the spark, allowing the current flow to resume. The GTCN28-151M-P15 arrester works by maintaining a low residual voltage after the spark, allowing it to provide maximum protection.In addition, the GTCN28-151M-P15 arrester is designed to handle pulse energies up to 300kJ and can withstand transient discharges up to 440kV.
