Gas Discharge Tube Arresters or GDTs are protective devices that prevent explosions and surge voltages in electrical circuits caused by lightning strikes. They contain two electrodes, a gas-filled tube, and a couple of electrodes. A triggered circuit is used to create a spark across the electrodes, which breaks down the gas between them.
