Gas Discharge Tube Arresters (GDT) are commonly used in power distribution systems to protect equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and rectifiers from high voltage transients and to protect personnel from electric shock hazards. GDTs are designed to limit the voltage that can pass through them by either temporarily or permanently altering their internal electrical pathways.The GTCR37-551M-P10-FS is a Gas Discharge Tube Arrester (GDT) with a dual-input/dual-output gas discharge tube (GDT) designed to restrict voltage levels to 10 volts, with a typical active peak current of 35A to 38A. The two GDTs are connected in such a way that they can be used as either a single-input/single-output (SISO) or a dual-input/dual-output (DIDO) arrester. This design allows the user to choose either a single- or double-nip output- depending on the application- and each GDT offers overcurrent and overvoltage protection.GTCR37-551M-P10-FS operation is based on a principle called corona effect. This effect occurs when a high voltage current passes through the arrester, which causes a charge to be created in the air around the tube. This charge is then drawn into the tube, where it creates a low pressure area that acts as a barrier to further current flow. The resulting arc is extinguished as the pressure from the incoming high voltage current drops, allowing the GDT to regain control of the voltage level.GTCR37-551M-P10-FS is most often used for high voltage suppression, voltage stabilization, and high voltage protection in applications such as substations, power plants, data centers, and other critical power systems. Additionally, GTCR37-551M-P10-FS is designed to withstand short-circuit currents of up to 200kA and high fault currents of up to 300kA. Its built-in protection feature prevents unplanned/uncontrolled shutdowns, and its surge-discarding technology quickly routes high-speed transients away from sensitive equipment.
