The infrared LED acts as a light source that is activated by the electrical signal applied to the Anode and Cathode of the device. When the LED is triggered, infrared light is emitted from the LED and it is detected by the phototransistor. The photoelectric effect created by the light striking the phototransistor causes the phototransistor to turn on and off, thus triggering the electrical load connected to the Collector and Emitter of the device. This creates electrical isolation between the input and output of the optoisolator. Therefore, the electrical signal triggered by the infrared LED is isolated from the load.

The H11G46 optoisolator has proven to be an effective device for providing electrical insulation in many different applications. It has a wide operating voltage range, a low current consumption, an excellent linearity, a high switching speed and high temperature stability.
