Optoisolators, also known as optocouplers, are devices which use light to transfer electrical signals from one circuit to another, while at the same time isolating the two circuits from one another, allowing them to operate completely independently. The particular model, H11L1S(TA)-V, is part of the Logic Output family of optoisolators.
The applications for optoisolators, and similar devices, are numerous. They are primarily used in the isolating of electrical circuits, and allowing them to operate with independent power sources, reducing the risk of electrical shock or other unintended interactions between different systems. They are a critical component of certain medical devices and lab equipment, where electrical shock may be very dangerous, or in applications where high voltage must be kept away from low-voltage circuits. They are also used in automotive and factory controls and automation systems.
The H11L1S(TA)-V optoisolator works by transferring analog signals, or two-state logic signals, between isolated circuits. The input signal is passed through a pair of LED’s (light emitting diodes) which then send signals through a special optical filter which separates out the logic states 0 and 1. These logic signals are then passed through a light-sensitive photoreceptor which then translates the signal into an electrical signal, and sends it on to the output circuit.
In addition to isolating the two circuits, these particular optoisolators offer a high degree of noise immunity, enabling accurate operation at high speeds and in the presence of environmental disturbances. The H11L1S(TA)-V devices are designed with a package size of 4.76 mm x 6.3 mm, with a height of 1.5 mm. This small size allows the optoisolator to be incorporated into extremely small and compact circuits while still providing superior performance. In addition, these optoisolator units feature 8.2 ms minimum detection time, with a maximum of 40 ms, allowing for fast response times in time-critical applications.
The H11L1S(TA)-V devices, and other optoisolators, offer a high degree of safety and functionality due to their unique design. By limiting the energy output and preventing direct contact between the input and output circuits, they are ideal for many sensitive or potentially dangerous applications. By allowing electrical signals to be passed between circuits without physical contact, they are also able to provide isolation or protection from electromagnetic interference, ultimately leading to more efficient and reliable operation.
