HAL108TQ-I is a self-contained, solid-state, magnetic reed switch. This switch uses an integrated circuit (IC) version of the popular Geophone pickup for Hall Effect sensing. It is an ultra-sensitive, low-power, low-cost, miniature, and low-profile switch. The switch operates normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC). It has a sensitive hysteresis range of 5 - 20 milliamps, which makes it possible to set the level of a magnetic field which activates the switch.

The switch uses a three pin configuration. The third pin, labelled “power”, is used to supply power to the internal Hall effect sensor. When a magnetic field is present, the switch will turn on and off depending on the direction the field is travelling. The switch’s action is also affected by the strength of the field, so when the field is too weak, the switch will not turn on or off.

The internal Hall effect sensor is used to detect a magnetic field in the distance. This sensor\'s output is then amplified and used to drive a signal transistor, which energizes a relay. The relay then selects either the normally-open or normally-closed configuration of the switch. This allows for a wide range of triggering conditions.
