HAL320SF-A is a high-performance, solid-state, latching Hall effect switch for use in automotive, consumer, industrial, and appliance applications. The switch is targeted for inductive sensing, magnetic switching, current sensing, and general logic switching applications. The unique features of the switch include its wide operating temperature range of –40 °C to +150 °C and its high operating reliability even during vibration. The switch offers high reverse leakage current capability when used in automotive applications, making it well suited for wireless vehicle access system (WVAS) applications.

HAL320SF-A is an integrated Hall effect switch which contains a Hall element, a CMOS logic level-shifter and an amplifier. The Hall element, combined with a hysteresis comparator circuit, is used to detect the presence or absence of a magnetic field. The levels of the magnetically amplified signal are compared with a reference voltage which is adjusted with one external resistor. When the presence or absence of the magnetic field changes, the state of the switch is changed as well. The CMOS logic-level-shifter converts the low-voltage Hall signal into a logic level signal suitable for logic pull-up circuitry. The signal is sent to the amplifier, which amplifies the logic-level signal and amplifies and latches it to a high or a low logic level. This logic level signal is then sent to the outputs for triggering external electronics.

The switch is most commonly used in automotive applications such as vehicle access systems, door locking systems, instrument clusters, central door lock systems, and power mirror systems. It is also used in consumer applications such as antenna systems for remote control devices, computer input devices for keyboards, pointing devices and mice, and industrial applications such as industrial stop-start switches, level switches and inductive proximity sensors.
