The HCF4029M013TR is a CMOS logic integrated circuit designed for low-power applications in both transmitting and receiving systems. It provides a single edge-triggered D-type flip-flop or dual edge-triggered RS flip-flops, which can be used for counting, dividing or decimating signals. The 10-bit register and 2 or 4 preset inputs can divide the input frequency into one of 1024 different signals relative to the master clock. In addition, it has several other features including a low power consumption, high frequency operation and a very low propagation delay.

Working principle:
The HCF4029M013TR is made up of two halves: the preset which can be used as a divide-by-N counter, and the register which can be used as a divide-by-2K counter. It uses an asynchronous preset input to preset the counter to any state between 0 and 4095. The register also has two asynchronous plus an edge-triggered reset inputs, enables both of which must be active for the counter to count up. There is also an output enable output which can be used to disable the count output by setting it high, or to the reset state by setting it to a low state.
The internal clock is fed through a master clock driver, which passes it to the counter, the output of which is fed to a divide by two component, then back to the register, thereby giving a single output. This output can be connected to other logic elements in order to produce a divide by whatever is needed. A bigger divide ratio is obtained by making the output feed back to the input of the counter and registering the output before the clock is reset high again. This will give two counts in one clock cycle giving an effective counting mode of 4K.
The HCF4029M013TR also features an Enable Input which can be connected to either of the enable inputs (En1 or En2) to cause the count output to go low when En is active. When the enable is low, the count is disabled and the counter will remain in the state it was in. This feature can be used to keep the output from going too high.
The counter is also has a “count” mode, which is determined by the state of the preset input. When the preset input is inactive, the counter will operate in single count mode, and when the preset is active the counter will operate in dual count mode. Single count mode will count up or down with each incoming clock transition, while in dual count mode, the count will decrement by two every transition of the clock.
The HCF4029M013TR is an ideal choice for most low power applications due to its low power consumption, high frequency operation and very low propagation delay.
