The HCPL-2430-300E is an optoisolator logic output chip from the 6N135 family developed by Avago Technologies. This chip is designed to provide a method of isolating a digital signal from a noisy logic control environment. It operates on a supply voltage of 4.5 to 20 Volts and has a capability of providing logic outputs from 0 to 5-V rail. This optoisolator is used in various applications such as digital logic service, driving LEDs, analog error correction, and temporary microcontroller contact closure request systems.

The HCPL-2430-300E consists of a vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) and a high-gain photodetector, which are both combined into one small component. The VCSEL is an optoelectronic device that is used to convert the electrical signals into optical signals. These light signals are then transmitted through the chip by a waveguide which is integrated in the same chip.

The optoisolator can also be used for driving LED arrays, allowing the use of LED backlighting for LCD screens. When the LED array is driven by the optoisolator, the light output from the LED array is regulated precisely, ensuring that the required levels of illumination and color temperature are met. The main principle of working of HCPL-2430-300E is the photovoltaic action. The light signal which is emitted from the VCSEL is received by the photodiode which is low impedance component, and turns into an electrical signal. The output voltage generated by the photodiode is regulated through the open collector transistor’s circuit which delivers the output signal. These collected signals are fed back to the new photodiode and into the open collector circuit. This cycle keeps repeating continuously and the signal is amplified each time resulting in a clean and isolated digital logic output.

The HCPL-2430-300E is a high bandwidth isolation device which has excellent common mode rejection of up to 130 kV/V. This device also has a very low track-to-track capacitance below 0.6 pF. The HCPL-2430-300E is capable of operating up to 20 MHz so is suitable for use in high speed applications such as digital logic service or for driving LED arrays. This optoisolator is very reliable and offers excellent isolation performance with up to 2.5 kV RMS insulation.
