The HCPL-5121 is a 3.75 kV rms universal gate driver optocoupler. This device provides all the features required for driving high voltage power MOSFETs, IGBTs, SCRs and Thryistors from low voltage logic signals. It offers an output stage that contains two Darlington power transistors, which can be paralleled for higher load current capability, and is powered by a regulated 5V supply.

The HCPL-5121 offers electrical isolation of at least 3.75 kV rms between the input and output stages. It also features galvanic isolation of the input loop and output loop, allowing direct floating connection of the output stage without any additional components. In addition, it also provides a low-side floating VCC connection for enhanced high voltage operation.

Working Principle
