Work Principle

The HCPL-7800A follows a two-stage amplifier architecture; comprising of two stages, operating as a differential amplifier. The first stage is a low noise (LNA) differential amplifier, designed using a gain-controlled differential pair of transistors. This stage is followed by a differential output stage with an adjustable bias current. The LNA operates over a wide common-mode voltage range, making it suitable for harsh industrial environments. The adjustable bias permits the best possible common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR), enabling the device to adequately reject interference and noise from AC power lines. The amplifier also includes a power-down function which allows the amplifier to be powered down when not needed, reducing overall power consumption.
