Working Principle of HMC446TR
As a reflective SP3T Switch, HMC446TR can be used to switch RF signals from one port to another port. The principles of its operation start with the presence of three switches in the device– Sw1, Sw2, and Sw3. Sw1 diverts the RF signal from port 1 to port 2 and bypasses the device altogether, while Sw2 routes the signal from port 1 to port 3 and passes through the device. Sw3 provides a reflection of the signal back to port 1. By altering the connection pattern of these three switches, the signal can effectively be routed from one port to one of the two other ports.
When the signal is routed through the device, power is also dissipated as a result of the switch’s resistance. To minimize this power dissipation, the switch is designed with a low PRN characteristic, which, in essence, means that the maximum dissipation at any port is minimized. In addition, the device also reduces the effects of harmonic distortion and intermodulation, which are both caused by the introduction of undesired signals into the system.
