HMC536LP2ETR application field and working principle
The HMC536LP2ETR is an RF switch developed by the Broadcom Corporation which is designed to operate in the DC to 20 GHz frequency range. It is a low-power, low-cost, high-performance, surface acoustic wave (SAW) switching device with excellent linearity performance. It is used in a variety of communications applications including cellular basestations, Wi-Fi networks, and in SATCOM systems.The HMC536LP2ETR is a broadband switch with unrestricted control voltage or frequency range. Its features make it ideal for applications where signal integrity and low power consumption are critical. The device has a maximum switching power handling capability of +33 dBm while its insertion loss at low frequencies is typically 0.7 dB. Its operating voltage is 5 V (±1 V).The HMC536LP2ETR utilizes a surface acoustic wave (SAW) switching system which utilizes an array of micromachined MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) transducers. The MEMS transducers are fabricated utilizing a substrate with an assigned set of electrodes that are formed in a line to create a standing wave pattern with specific wavelengths. When the input signal is applied to the electrodes, the standing wave pattern is disturbed and the signal is then split into multiple paths in order to create the desired switching effect.To operate the HMC536LP2ETR, the user must provide a control voltage or frequency to the device. This is applied to the electrodes of each MEMS transducer, creating a disturbance of the standing wave pattern which in turn creates the correct switching operation. Depending on the desired configuration, the device can be switched between single-pole dual-throw (SPDT), single-pole triple-throw (SP3T), and dual-pole double-throw (DP2T).The level of operating voltage required for the HMC536LP2ETR to operate correctly is 5V. However the device can also be operated within the range of 3V to 7V while maintaining an allowed level of error in its switching action.The HMC536LP2ETR is a versatile device that can be used for a variety of switching applications.
