HMC550AE is a RF Switches with a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switch core, capable of handling up to +27 dBm RF input power with very low insertion loss and high linearity. The switch is manufactured in CMOS process technology, allowing for a high integration density and fast switching at microwave frequencies. It is a high performance silicon MESFET-based switch with wide dynamic range, low insertion loss and low power consumption, making it suitable for use in wireless applications.The HMC550AE application field includes wireless radios, Defence & aerospace as well as transmitters and receivers for remote sensing applications. As the switch has a wide dynamic range, it can handle a large input power range and offers excellent performance for wideband signal requirements such as in radar systems. The low insertion loss and low power consumption are ideal for wireless systems where power consumption is a major issue. Due to its high linearity, the switch exhibits very low distortion and can handle modulated signals.The HMC550AE operates with two control pins – an enable/disable and an input select. The enable/disable control allows for the switch to be activated or deactivated while the input select control allows the user to select between the two inputs (A or B ). The control voltage swing of the enable/disable is 0 Volts (OFF) and 4v for ON, while for the input intelect voltage is 0volts (A) and 1.8v for (B). The switch outputs voltage of -2 volts for B & A both and for the tandem functions(AB).The power consumption of the switch is very low, consuming only 50uA when the enable/disable pin is set to 0 volts. The combination of low power consuming and high linearity makes it ideal for use in low power radio systems.The typical insertion loss is around 0.2dB and the isolation between the switch input and output is 55dB. The switch is capable of handling signals up to 27dBm and is available in chip and board form. The chip form makes the installation very easy and cost effective. The chip form requires a single voltage supply for power, while the board form requires two voltage supplies.To summarize, the HMC550AE RF Switches is ideal for use in high power, wide bandwidth radio communication systems such as in defence range and aerospace, as it has a wide dynamic range, low insertion loss, low power consumption and high linearity. Its small physical size and low power consumption makes it the ideal choice for integration into miniaturized electronic systems.
