An RF mixers is an electronic device that combines two signals together producing a sum and a difference frequency signal. The HMC557ALC4 is an RF mixer characterized by low conversion loss, high linearity, and wide dynamic range. It operates at frequencies from DC to 18 GHz, and covers a wide IF range of 1 to 12GHz, making it ideal for mixer applications.
The HMC557ALC4 employs a dual diode / single layer active device offering superior performance over a traditional double diode active mixer. This device also features wide input and IF ports (±2 dB, referenced to 1.8GHz, DC to 18 GHz). The input and IF ports are balanced, eliminating concerns associated with single-ended inputs, and feature a low-noise amplifier (LNA) and a power switch to minimize power consumption.
The HMC557ALC4 is also designed with a high level of linearity, low input power requirements (10dBm or less), and low operating current. These attributes make the device suitable for use in a wide range of applications including up-converter, RF synthesizer, down-converter, low-distortion mixer, up-conversion transmitter, and more.
This device features a number of additional features designed to improve its performance. These include a wide dynamic range (60 dB typical, 90 dB maximum), high IIP3 (3rd-order intermodulation distortion) of 35 dBm typical, low conversion loss (6 dB typical, 12 dB maximum), high isolation in both the input and IF ports (20 dB typical, 40 dB maximum), and a low noise figure (NF) of 3 dB typical.
In addition, the HMC557ALC4 employs a dual diode / single gate device design, which offers higher linearity and improved isolation over traditional double diode active mixers. This improved performance translates to improved receiver performance in a wide range of wireless and other applications.
