The HMC615LP4E is based on a monolithic GaAs IC process designed to provide dual conversion with excellent dynamic performance over a large input power range. Moreover, it also offers single-ended and differential ports for flexibility of mixer implementations. A working principle of the HMC615LP4E is simple. It takes in an RF signal and in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) local oscillator (LO) signals as inputs. The RF signal and the LO signals then pass through a CMOS switch which connects to a pair of balanced mixers. The RF and the LO signals are mixed together in the two mixers and produce a baseband signal which consists of sum and difference frequency signals that are separated from the IF filter. Finally, the IF signal output from the filter is then connected to a power detector for measurement of RF power. Additionally, it also features a balanced input/output coupler which offers excellent rejection of the undesirable out-of-band signals.

The HMC615LP4E is suitable for applications such as low noise amplifiers (LNA), pocket cellular basestation receiver, software-defined radio (SDR), upconverter, downconverter and frequency synthesizers. It provides extremely low noise figure over a wide frequency, low phase noise performance and high linearity over input power range up to 22 dBm. It operates from a single +3.3V supply voltage and has been packaged in an surface-mount package.
