RF Mixers
The HMC966LP4E is a high linearity, low noise performance double balanced active mixer for microwave radio applications. It operates in the Frequency range from DC to 6 GHz with user-selectable LO frequency. This mixer offers typical conversion loss of 11.5 dB, typical isolation of 20 dB, and low LO-to-RF leakage of -45 dBm. This balanced mixer can also be used as a phase detector or a LO multiplier.

Working Principle
The HMC966LP4E is a surface mount passive diode double balanced mixer with an integrated amplifier circuit blocks. The mixer combines two signals in the frequency domain, one signal being the local oscillator (LO) frequency and the other being the received signal (RF). The LO is applied directly to the input of the double balanced diode mixer and the RF is applied to the output of the balun of the amplifier circuit. By rectifying the differential input current, the LO signal is converted to a DC voltage drive signal for the amplifier circuit and provides the linearity and gain. The amplified RF signal is recombined with the amplified LO signal and the resulting I/Q signal is output in the form of an I/Q demodulated signal.
