Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) is an integrated circuit that helps improve the performance, reliability and safety of digital devices by regulating and managing power distribution, voltage regulation and temperature control. The working principle of HPC3130APGE is based on simple concepts of Hot Plugging. It uses an integrated MOSFET array as its basic power switch, along with two external sense resistors, one to sense the current flow from the system to the load, and another to sense the voltage across the load. The sensed signals are then fed to the internal logic block for further processing. The internal logic block processes the sensed signals and compares them to the preset limits of current and voltage. If either of the two limits exceeds, it then disables the power switch automatically and prevents any further passage of current to the load.
The HPC3130APGE uses an adjustable over-current limit , with a limit range of 0.5A to 6.0A. The over-current limit can be set by varying the external sense resistors. The device also helps to protect the load from over-voltage conditions. It has an adjustable over-voltage threshold, with a range from 3V to 20V. It also supports a variable under-voltage limit, which helps to protect the load from excessive ESD or short circuit events.
The HPC3130APGE also has a number of other protection features, such as reverse-polarity protection, which prevents the power switch from conducting current when the polarities of the power and ground lines are reversed.
