Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) is an integrated system that performs several distinct functions in the design of power control and management. One such example is the ICE2A180Z, which is an offline switcher IC.The ICE2A180Z is primarily used for offline flyback converters and forward converters in AC/DC applications. It is ideal for designs that require a high efficiency, space saving, and cost optimization. The IC features an integrated power MOSFET switch and a high-voltage start up circuit, which simplifies design and reduces bill of materials (BOM) cost. The IC also utilizes PWM control and an input current limit circuit to improve system reliability, and ensure real time current limiting. The ICE2A180Z offers a single-output, non-analog constant off-time control for Universal AC/DC converters, such as a Flyback, Forward, Half-Bridge, Buck, Boost, and Push-Pull converter. The fixed off-time is user programmable, ranging from 4us to 64us, to guarantee the required load regulation. In addition, the IC has an active peak current control for an enhanced power efficiency and reduced electromagnetic interference (EMI).The ICE2A180Z utilizes a start-up current ramp and brown-out protection, which allows designers to limit start-up current of an entire system. To conserve energy, the IC also features a hysteretic thermal shutdown, adjustable frequency and programmable power save mode. Furthermore, its fixed 500kHz operating frequency reduces the component size and eliminates the need for an external frequency compensation network.When it comes to power conversion, the ICE2A180Z offers several unique features that enable seamless and energy efficient AC/DC conversions. It has an integrated 3.3V regulator, which provides a low voltage supply for the MOSFET gate driver and other integrated circuits. Additionally, its LED driver makes it possible to power multiple LED strings, while maintaining a constant current throughout.The ICE2A180Z is designed to work in an offline environment and can be used in a variety of applications, including mobile phones, consumer electronics, and appliance controllers.
