(IDT).The IDT74FCT540ATPYG8 is a CMOS octal non-inverting buffer/line driver with 5-V tolerant on all pins. It includes 3-state outputs, an output enable per bank, and a select (SEL) input eliminating “fight-through”. The device is designed to drive mainline and low-capacitance bus loads in a 2.5 V and 3.3 V or 5 V environment. The output will remain at the high impedance state when SEL is low. The I/O pins are equipped with protection circuitry to minimize damage resulting from high-energy ESD transients.The IDT74FCT540ATPYG8 is mainly used in applications that require output drivers with higher performance and wide data bus support. These applications include computers and related equipment, general purpose applications, medical and test equipment, military and aerospace systems, telecom/communications systems and many others.The device is also suitable for use in combinatorial/sequential logic where a common output enable (OE) is used. It is also useful in multiplexer applications, primarily when data-bus loading is excessive.The device is fabricated in high performance silicon on sapphire (SOS) and silicon on insulator (SOI) CMOS technology. The logic is designed in the TTL family. It incorporates a low-impedance inverting buffer with a 3-state output, which is enabled by a high speed active pull-down. The 3-state output feature enable is provided with a latch, and a select enable (SEL) input is provided to allow one or two device configurations.Working principle– The IDT74FCT540ATPYG8 is an octal buffer with 3-state outputs. It contains 8 non-inverting buffers that are controlled by an active low output enable (OE) pin. When OE is active low, the 3-state outputs become high impedance and the outputs corresponding to OE will remain tri-stated. The select (SEL) pin can be used to choose between two different configurations. The SEL pin can be connected to ground to enable the odd bank, with the even bank remaining in tri-state. Alternatively, it may be connected to VCC for odd bank tri-state and even bank active.In normal operation, the IDT74FCT540ATPYG8 acts as an octal buffer with high speed logic for data transfer and latched high-impedance outputs for driving loads. It can provide 5V tolerant inputs to superimpose high frequency data on lower voltage systems, allowing for higher throughput and better signal integrity.The IDT74FCT540ATPYG8 is designed to operate in a 2.5 V and 3.3 V or 5 V environment. It is a high speed device with a maximum propagation delay of 4ns. Its power consumption is typically 25.5 mW/MHz, making it suitable for low power applications.
