An optoisolator, or opto-isolator, is a device used to transfer an electrical signal from one circuit to another without it passing through the circuit’s ground. It is a type of optical device composed of a semiconductor light-emitting diode (LED) and a photovoltaic or phototransistor. Optical isolation of the two circuits is achieved by the use of the LED, which is activated by the voltage of the input circuit, and then causes the light to be transmitted to the photovoltaic or phototransistor, in the output circuit. The light from the LED will then be converted into the electrical voltage in the output circuit.
The IL2 application field is mainly the use of optical isolation in a variety of areas. This could include low voltage electrical circuits, pulsed laser and/or RF circuits, precise voltage monitoring and control, and other areas where isolation is important. These applications can be utilized to provide protection to sensitive circuits from overloading, as well as in filtering and signal conditioning applications.
In terms of the working principles of an IL2, the light emitted by the LED will be converted to an electric field by the photovoltaic or phototransistor. This electric field will then be fed back into the output circuit, providing a clean, isolated voltage. The light transmission between the LED and the photovoltaic or phototransistor will then ensure that the electric signals in the input and output circuits will not interfere with one another. This ensures that the signals can be transmitted without any degradation or distortion.
The specific application of the IL2 will determine the exact working principle used.
