It basically consists of an operational amplifier, a series pass transistor and some resistors, capacitors, and inductors.The output voltage of the linear regulator is regulated by the feedback loop between the operational amplifier and the series pass transistor. The operational amplifier compares the input voltage and the output voltage, and adjusts the current passing through the series pass transistor in order to produce the output voltage according to the regulation set by the user.
