The IMX8T108 is a series of NPN transistor array chips capable of intricate logic level manipulation and signal conditioning. This 8-pin chip contains three NPN transistors and can handle up to 2.1A of current, and can function as a gate, amplifier, buffer, or other logic level device. The IMX8T108 is capable of both TTL (transistor-transistor logic) and CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide-semiconductor) logic signals and is frequently used to interface different logic families.
The device operates with a supply voltage range of +4.5V to +30V and the maximum ratings for input, output, and power dissipation are all quite generous. The low-level output source current IOL is rated as 75 mA and the high-level output sink current IOH is rated at 125 mA, both of which are sufficient for most applications. The operating temperature range of the IMX8T108 is -20°C to +85°C and features of this array including a high frequency response and a short propagation delay. The power supply rejection ratio is given to be a very generous -55 dB and the output impedance is only slightly higher than the input impedance.
The IMX8T108 features a wide range of applications, including logic level conversion and multi-bit memory control. In almost all of these applications, the use of multiple transistors or other switching elements is required, and the IMX8T108 allows for the implementation of logic circuits in an efficient single package. The device is also frequently used for signal conditioning with variable gain amplifiers and other linear applications.
The IMX8T108’s working principle is quite simple. The logic levels of an input signal can be determined from the voltage range the signal operates in. For instance, TTL (transistor-transistor logic) input voltage levels typically range from 0V to 5V. The IMX8T108 detects the input level and accordingly turns on the appropriate transistor. If the input level is 0V, then the output will be switched to a logical “low” and if the input level is 5V, the output will be switched to a logical “high”.
The transistors of the IMX8T108 are organized to form an internal rather than a cascaded device. This means that the output signal of each transistor will activate the corresponding transistor in the next stage. This configuration reduces the overall device’s size and power consumption. The IMX8T108 is suitable for a wide range of applications, including logic-level converters, logic level multiplexers, analog switches, and bi-directional signal converters.
