Working Principle
This integrated chip contains 16 darlington arrays, each composed of two sets of NPN transistor. Each of these darlington arrays can control up to 50V of current, with a maximum of 500 mA. It works in such way that when triggered by a signal, it will produce a voltage to activate the transistor. The ON and OFF controls are operated by the enable control line. The ULN2003VAS16-13 works in such way that two resistors are connected in parallel, with one grounded (R1) and the resistor connected to Vcc (R2). The R1 is used as a pull up resistor. So, when a signal comes in, it will activate the gate, which will cause the current to flow through the transistor and thus, the voltage across the pull up resistor will drop. When the voltage drops to a certain level, the transistor will be activated and the ULN2003VAS16-13 will be enabled and the current will flow through the controlled load.
