INN2215K is an integrated power management IC (PMIC) designed for offline switchers and AC/DC converters in low-power home appliance applications. It provides one buck Regulator (1A output current), two buck regulators (2.5A output current) and two boost converters. The buck converters support programmable auto-skip and can achieve high efficiency up to 94%. It provides a variety of protection functions such as over current protection (OCP), output over-voltage protection (OVP) and over temperature protection (OTP).The basic principles of the INN2215K PMIC are depicted in the schematic diagrams below. The AC/DC Rectifier/Inverter (rectangular block) is the first step of the INN2215K PMIC. It converts the AC voltage from the mains to DC voltage. This DC voltage is then fed to an Active Clamp controller (triangular block). Here, the Active Clamp controller generates a positive pulse which is used to control the switching of two FETs which are connected in a buck-boost mode.The main function of the INN2215K PMIC is to provide the user with a fully programmable switching system which helps in regulating the output voltage. The pulse width modulation (PWM) modulation employed by the INN2215K PMIC is used to vary the output voltage. The PWM modulation takes place at a fixed frequency of up to 500kHz. This allows the user to program the voltage regulation by setting different Duty Cycles, which is dependent on the desired output voltage.The power conversion efficiency of the INN2215K PMIC depends on the output load current. The efficiency increases with increasing load current up to a certain limit. The design of the PMIC also supports programmable auto-skip mode for enhanced efficiency by reducing the switching losses. The core functions of the INN2215K are embedded within the silicon and thus the physical size of the IC is minimized.The INN2215K PMIC provides a comprehensive set of protection functions such as over current protection (OCP), over voltage protection (OVP) and over temperature protection (OTP). The OCP monitors the output current and shuts down the regulator when the maximum current is exceeded. The OVP monitors the output voltage and shuts down the regulator if the voltage rises above the specified limit.
