IRKJ166/16 is a rectifier array, a type of diode, manufactured by Vishay Semiconductor. Rectifier arrays and diodes have many applications in various different industrial and consumer electronics. The IRKJ166/16 is a high-density, easy-to-mount rectifier array module that comes in a 4-channel package.
This rectifier array module is used for various applications such as selenoidal rectification, power factor correction, and other high-frequency operations. It provides high-efficiency and low-noise operation while protecting against switching disturbances such as common mode noise and electromechanical resonance (EMI). The IRKJ166/16 module has an integrated capacitive rating of 1.5A and a peak inverse voltage of 650V with an average forward current per channel of 166A.
Working Principle of IRKJ166/16
The IRKJ166/16 module has 4 channels, each of which contains 4 diodes connected in parallel. A rectifier array is created when two of these channels are combined in a bridge circuit. The four diodes present in the bridge circuit efficiently combine the positive and negative input signals, rectifying the AC current into pulsating DC current. This DC current is then smoothed out by a filter to produce an average voltage level.
The rectifier array is designed to allow the current to be driven in either direction, depending on the polarity of the input signals. If the input signals are positive, the top switches on in an initial positive voltage while the bottom switches on in an initial negative voltage. The opposite holds true if the input signals are negative. This gives the array the ability to convert alternate current into a direct current of uniform polarity.
The diodes in the array also display a characteristic known as “reverse breakdown voltage”. This refers to the specific voltage at which the diode begins to conduct current in the reverse direction. The IRKJ166/16 rectifier array has a reverse breakdown voltage of 650V. This allows the array to effectively manage any extraneous voltage if an overload occurs, without experiencing any damage. Furthermore, the temperature coefficient for the reverse breakdown voltage is 0.005V/°C, meaning the array will remain stable over a wide range of temperatures.
Applications of IRKJ166/16
