The IRKL105/12A thyristor is a three-terminal semiconductor device with characteristics that make it attractive for various applications. This type of thyristor is a silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) module that is typically used in commercial, industrial, and medical applications. The IRKL105/12A includes two SCR pairs of equal individual devices with a reverse-parallel connection to a common terminal. The IRKL105/12A is a unidirectional semiconductor device. The IRKL105/12A has two forward-conducting SCRs (Q1 and Q2), which are connected in parallel with the reverse-parallel connection. These two SCRs are usually triggered on with a low trigger current, thus enabling low gate power dissipation. The reverse-parallel connection extends the power rating of the device, and enables it to be operated at higher current ratings.

The IRKL105/12A has three leads—anode, gate, and cathode, which are equivalent to the base, collector, and emitter in a BJT. The anode of this device is connected to the gate, and the gate controls the device’s behavior. When a positive gate voltage is applied, the device is turned “on” and current flows through it.
