IRS2184SPBF is a field effect transistor (FET) driver integrated circuit (IC) manufactured by International Rectifier Corporation. It is a monolithic driver which is intended to drive insulated small gate FETs. The IRS2184SPBF belongs to the category of power management integrated circuits (PMICs) – Gate Drivers, specifically, it is a FET driver type of gate driver.

The IRS2184SPBF is a 3.3 V powered high-speed FET driver IC that offers an extremely low propagation delay time of 250 ns, and thus are effectively used in high-speed applications. The driver also comes built-in with an adjustable driver threshold voltage (or slew rate) control, provided by an on-chip threshold control pin.

IRS2184SPBF has six pins, of which two are power pins (Vcc, Vee), one is a control input (logic) pin, two are FET gates (LOGICA and LOGICB) and a threshold control pin. In its intended application, it works by varying the current through the FET gate based on the input signal applied to the control input pin. When the control input is set to logic high (5 V), the output FET gates switch to logic high, allowing the source to be switched on. When the control input is set to logic low (0 V), the output FET gates switch to logic low, switching off the source. The driver threshold circuitry is used to regulate the amount of current supplied to the FET gates.

The threshold control pin can be connected to an external voltage source or to an internal voltage divider. If left unconnected, the drive threshold will be fixed at 2.5 V. By varying the voltage of the threshold control pin, the user can change the threshold voltage and thus the slew rate of the FET driver. The range of control of the threshold voltage is from 1.8 V to 4.5 V.

Overall, the IRS2184SPBF is a high-speed FET driver IC which is used in applications where the driving of insulated small gate FETs is involved. It has a wide operating temperature range (- 40 °C to + 85 °C) and comes in a 6-lead Flatpack with a hermetic seal that enables the device to operate in harsh environmental conditions.
