Description
IRU3138CSTR is a high efficiency DC-DC switching controller that operates in either a synchronous buck regulator or buck-boost configuration. While operating in the continuous conduction mode (CCM), it utilizes a low minimum on time to give higher efficiency and delivers the maximum power from the input source to the output load. The device has easy to use loops, adaptive gate drivers with under-voltage protection, and a phase shifted current mode control, allowing flexible and efficient design. The output can be operated in low noise pulse skipping mode (PFM), to reduce the output ripple and also save power.The IRU3138CSTR features an ultra low start-up and shutdown current, when integrated with a shutdown input. The device senses the voltage level in the output capacitor to decide when to start switching, avoiding the start-up current spike. The device also puts the section into full reset mode when a falling edge is applied on the shutdown input. This feature helps the system to achieve ultra low power loss in standby power mode.Working Principle
The IRU3138CSTR works based on the current mode control and phase shifted PWM control. The device senses the current in the output through an external sense resistor and controls the switching frequency by controlling duty cycle. The device also produces a non-overlapping gate drive signals for synchronous MOSFETs. The switched MOSFETs connected in the input source convert the input source into the output load. The device operates in either a synchronous buck regulator or buck-boost configuration, which allows for the output voltage to be above or below the input voltage.The heart of the IRU3138CSTR device is the voltage mode error amplifier, which compares the reference voltage with the voltage sensed on the output capacitor and produces an error voltage. This error voltage then drives the current mode control and generates the high-side and low-side pulse width modulation gate signals.
