Working Principle

The ISL29018IROZ-T7S2723 is a dual ambient light sensing device. It uses two photodiode detectors to sense ambient light and infrared radiation. The light photodiode is sensitive to wavelengths from 400nm to 1100nm while the infrared (IR) photodiode is sensitive to wavelengths from 1100nm to 2600nm. Both detectors have a 120° field of view. A dedicated filter analog per photodiode selects the peak response for each detector by rejectingout-of band frequencies. The two detectors are ideally matched to ensure low offset between the detectors.

The ISL29018IROZ-T7S2723 uses a dedicated analog gain block stage to adjust the sensitivity for each photodiode which compensates for temperature and aging. The output is then converted to a 14-bit ADC (analog to digital converter) link, which is converted to a two or ten bit result.
