ISL3294EFHZ-T is a fully-integrated, 4-bit High-Voltage Differential Bus Transceiver for pulse width modulation (PWM) and modulated digital signals over single twisted-pair cables. The transceiver comprises four bus transceivers and four buffers, operating at 2500 MHz data rates and supporting up to four simultaneous differential pairs. The transceiver is designed to be used in multi-master systems with backup battery operation, allowing it to be used in place of a dual-master or a redundancy application.

ISL3294EFHZ-T is suitable for applications such as industrial control, TV displays, digital gaming, and other digital video applications. Its four buffers allow two different data rates and four differential pairs to be simultaneously interfaced. Furthermore, it offers enhanced jitter accuracy, improved system noise immunity, and fully differential signaling for increased channel performance.

Working Principle

ISL3294EFHZ-T utilizes two 2-bit differential receiver/transmitter circuits with an offset tolerance of up to ±10V/9.6V. Each receiver/transmitter circuit has two tri-state circuitselect inputs (RCLK and TCLK) and two differential inputs (RIN or TIN) and associated differential outputs (ROUT or TOUT) per set of differential pairs. When the RCLK and TCLK inputs are low, the receiver and transmitter will not be enabled, meaning that the bus will remain idle. When the RCLK and TCLK inputs are high, the receiver will enable and the transmitter will enable once the data bus has been released. The transmitter output voltage is controlled by the BV input producing an adjustable differential output swing from -10V/9.6V to +10V/9.6V

The ISL3294EFHZ-T also has an EC input to enable or disable the differential receiver based on the state of the EC output. This allows the transceiver to be designed into a two-master system or into a redundancy application. When the EC input is high, the receiver is enabled and will drive its associated differential pair. When the EC input is low, the differential pair will remain idle. In addition to the EC input, the ISL3294EFHZ-T also has a TEST input to enable/disable the receiver during testing mode, as well as a TEST output to provide a test result of the receiver.

Application Field

ISL3294EFHZ-T is an excellent choice for digital communication applications where high levels of integration are required and the data rate is at upper limit, such as industrial control, digital gaming, television displays and digital video applications. It operates over a -40°C to +85°C temperature range and provides robust operations over multiple data channels, enabling reliable communication over extended distances. Additionally, its small footprint is ideal for point-of-use applications and other space-constrained systems.

Its low current consumption makes it ideal for low power applications and it can be interfaced with any type of microcontroller or FPGA, providing flexibility in system design. With a low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) protocol, it supports up to four simultaneous differential pairs, thus making it capable of delivering high-speed data over multiple channels in one package.

Additionally, it is compatible with both low-speed (25 MHz) and high-speed (2500 MHz) applications. It is fully backward compatible with all pre-existing ISL3294E compliant parts, allowing designers to utilize a single components for multiple applications. Its high-performance and low power requirements, coupled with its enhanced signal integrity, make it an ideal solution for current and next-generation applications.
