ISL45042IR is a high efficiency, small package mid-voltage synchronous buck regulator with integrated high side MOSFET. This device is designed to provide consistent, low noise and high current output from distant sources, such as automotive and industrial motor vehicles. This buck regulator can tolerate input supply voltage up to 60V and has a wide 2.3V to 12V adjustable output voltage range. ISL45042IR accomplishes excellent dynamic performance with fast transient response, low dropout feature and fast loop response.

Working Principle

The ISL45042IR works on the principle of pulse width modulation (PWM), which is a modulation technique that uses rectangular pulses to represent a message signal. The PWM technique captures voltage and current relation of the output with respect to the input. The device features a maximum duty cycle at 100% and a minimum duty cycle at 0%. This allows the user to get a very accurate output voltage ratio depending on the desired output voltage.

The ISL45042IR incorporates an advanced adaptive compensation technique called Adaptive Slope Compensation, which is used to minimize dynamic ringing. This feature helps keep the output voltage clean and ripple-free.

To protect the device in case of an over current and over voltage situation, the ISL45042IR has in-built protection against both under-voltage lockout (UVLO) and over-voltage lockout (OVLO). UVLO is used to prevent the device from turning on when the voltage is too low, while OVLO is used to prevent the device from raising the output voltage too high.

The ISL45042IR is extremely efficient. It has a maximum efficiency of more than 94% and offers very low EMI noise which can be further reduced with the integrated advanced spread spectrum clock (SSC) feature. Additionally, its small 6-pin DSBGA package size makes it extremely suitable for space-constrained applications.
